Here are a couple of videos of us playing at the "The Basement" last month. We just recorded both of these songs at"The Beech House" studio in Nashville over the past couple of weeks. So far, we are very pleased with the outcome of the 5 songs that we have done. We hope that everyone enjoys the new sound we are trying to create. I think you will find it to be a lot different from our first record. The songs that we recorded are as follows:
Hearts Don't Break
Death, Who Will you Call?
Stop a Fire
Old Kentucky Home
Fires and Floods
We are also performing April 28th at "The Basement" in Nashville. It's at 7 and it is free. More about that later...

Also, If you are unaware of our "goings on", I am currently writing for a new record that we will begin recording tentatively this summer. We probably have about 7 songs that we are excited about putting on a album and are waiting on the rest. It's exciting to see it take form. Pre-production thus far has been a blast. We are playing a bunch of the new songs live now so come and see us. We also have some big ideas for the live show (which I am particularly excited about), new merch and a new website all coming in the next couple of months. I have also been throwing around the idea of covering Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street". Although I do realize it may lead to covers of "Excellent Birds" and "Shock the Monkey". Which is either a downward spiral or a "big time" step forward (pun intended) depending on your sentiments. Regardless, funk fingers, phone booths, and light bulb jackets are eminent.

Don't ask what hides in the tall grass.
I was thinking last week about the most terrifying song ever written, and it is as follows:
She'll be coming around the mountain when she comes (repeat)
She'll be riding six whit horses when she comes (repeat)
We'll all go out to meet her when she comes (repeat)
If you don't don't think that is terrifying you are not asking the right questions. Here they are:
Who is she?
Where is she coming from?
Why must she come around the mountain?
Why and how is she riding six white horses?
and the scariest of all...
Why are we all goin out to meet here?
If you have any theories as to who this woman might be please respond to this blog. Critical Listeners disagree, but I figure her to be some sort of deity, gotta be. So, in my attempt to write something more frightening I wrote these words that I hope I will one day fashion into a song: (I also understand this this is a American folk song with cultural significance and was never meant to be taken in the fashion that I am taking it. However, for creativity's sake, go with me.)
Don’t ask, don’t ask, don’t ask
What hides in the tall grass
Just run, just run, just run
As fast as you can
Don’t ask, don’t ask, don’t ask
What hide in the tall grass
Just run, just run, just run,
And don’t look back
What lies down below
Are deep dark holes
But they don’t show
They hide underneath
They fall so deep
And you can’t see
Don’t hide, Don’t hide, don’t hide
They’re sure to find you
Their eyes, their eyes, their eyes
Look all around
Don’t mind, don’t mind, don’t mind
The sounds behind you
Just scream, just scream, just scream
And drown it out
They follow behind
They’re bright red eyes
Cut through the night
Don’t slow down
Keep your feet on the ground
You might make it out
Also, everyone say a prayer to said Lady (that is coming around the mountain)tonight for me. We are leaving tomorrow for 4 straight shows (see www.myspace.com/ericwilson) and my singing voice is gone.

St. Louis
We went to the zoo. this image (which was actually taken at the zoo, i swear) is a perfect representation of our experience. It is fake of course... plastic. Interesting placement though.
We played at the Gramophone. We like it. We are going back Oct. 25th.
Paul slept on a coffee table. It was weird. I wish I had a picture.
We have a new website at www.emptyheartsmusic.com

Fires and Floods

In honor of our show this Tuesday, in which we will play many a new songs, here are the lyrics to a new tune called "Fires and Floods". The show is at The Basement on Tuesday at 8:00. And true to form, the song is about death and destruction. I swear, some "brighter" tunes will surface at some point. For intelligent conversation such as this, be at the basement on Tuesday.
"Fires and Floods"
We sat on the hill,
And watched the city turn red,
Watched the sky turn black,
The places were we were children, all gone in a flash,
When the water ran out,
All that we could do was wait and watch the flames go down,
If the rain don't come,
There won't be nothing left,
Bare, black bones of a town,
Lyin, scattered all around,
When the sun goes down,
We'll just see a glow,
And when it's burned all that it can,
We will gather what is left and start again,
We sat on the hill,
And watched the rain pour down,
Watched the river rise,
And the streets they filled with water right before our eyes,
Saw the levee break,
In that moment everything we had was swept away,
If the rain don't stop,
There won't be nothing left,
The river's claimed the ground,
Where at once our homes where found,
When the sun comes out,
The rain will surely go,
When it's ruined all that it can,
We will gather what is left and start again

TK on Hiatus: need something else to do with my life

The Tony Kornheiser Show took it's annual hiatus, and my mundane days just got a little more mundane. For my entire cubicle career I have listened to this radio show almost daily. I have no idea why this is blog-worthy other than the fact that it is my blog, and I like to tell people about the things that I like. I listened to the last show today as I "podcast" my life away on a daily basis. So, later on Tony. I hope you don't die from your "craptastic" hernia, a plane crash during MNF, or the inevitable animal revolution. And "If you are out on your bike tonight; as always, do wear white."
In other news, We have played a slew of shows since the last time I blogged and many more to come. If you are in town (Nashville) next tuesday, drop by The Basement for free! We are playing at 8:00 pm an should be debuting some new songs. Also, I'm dangerously close to quiting my day job so stay tuned for more completely boring, self-loathing and uninspired blogs to come!
